Big, small, or ranked, no school was safe on Saturday as the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team made a statement with their play at the Iowa City West tournament. The Hawks went 4-1 on the day, placing second in a stacked field, racking up more signature wins. Teams that ended up the Hawk’s hit list included No. 3 in Class 5A Ankeny, 26-24, 10-21 and 15-12, No. 10 in Class 2A Iowa City Regina 21-15, 10-21 and 15-12, Cedar Rapids Prairie 25-22 and 25-19 and the home Women of Troy 21-14 and 21-15, as the Hawks closed out pool play unbeaten. The only team that stopped the Hawk’s streak were the No. 1 in 5A Des Moines Dowling Maroons 25-18, 23-25 and 15-12.
Top performers for the day included Jovi Evans with 69 assists, 51 digs, 40 kills and nine aces. Dakota Mitchell finished with 64 digs. Callie Huber posted 30 kills and nine blocks. Lanee Duwa had 40 digs, Harper Pacha 33 kills and Avery Helmuth 38 assists.
After the 4-1 weekend, the Hawks now stand at 12-3 with a trip to early season River Valley Conference leader No. 15 in 2A Wilton Thursday
