The newest set of cross country rankings from the Iowa Association of Track Coaches have been released and several area teams find themselves and their athletes among the best in the state.
In Class 3A, the Washington Demon boys and girls are both ranked as full squads. The Demon boys are No. 7 this week, the same spot they occupied in the previous rankings. Micah Rees is the lone ranked runner in the Washington lineup checking in at No. 3 in Class 3A. He moved up two spots from fifth a week ago. The Demon girls check in at No. 14 in Class 3A for the second straight week. Washington was last on the course last Thursday at Waterworks Park in Fairfield. The Demon boys won the team title in their division, led by an individual title for Rees. The Demon girls were also team divisional champs with Lauren Horak leading the way in seventh.
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls are both ranked second in the state in Class 2A. The boys made a jump two spots from fourth a week ago, the girls moved down one place from the top spot. The Mid-Prairie girls have four ranked individuals in their lineup with Danielle Hostetler No. 1 in 2A for the fourth consecutive week. Greta Sieren is up a spot to ninth, Abby Fleming No. 22, down from 12th and Brooklyn Stutzman moved from 22nd to 29th. For the Golden Hawk boys, three athletes are ranked this week. Emmett Swartzentruber is up three spots to No. 8., Jayse Yoder is 11th and Preston Yutzy No. 16. The Golden Hawk boys and girls ran at Monticello over the weekend where the boys brought home the team title led by Swartzentruber’s runner-up performance and the Golden Hawk girls took second in the team race with Abby Fleming’s eighth place the top run of the day.
In Class 1A, Winfield-Mt. Union’s Kohlby Newsom checks in at No. 28 in the individual rankings, down from 20th a week ago. Newsom was 10th a week ago at Fairfield. The Wolves run next at Fort Madison tonight.
