The Washington City Council met for a special session on Tuesday to discuss the Capital Improvement Plan Update for fiscal years 2024-2028. The hour-long meeting held discussion between council members and City Administrator Deanna McCusker. One major item up for discussion was the Streetscape Project for the Downtown Washington District. Council member Elaine Moore shared her thoughts, “I just want to go on the record that I am adamantly against what we currently have. It’s not wheelchair friendly; it’s not walker-friendly. Speaking about the brick, if we are talking ADA compliant, maybe it is, but it is not comfortable for people in wheelchairs or using walkers. I am not against the streetscape, I am for equal priority for the streets as well.” The City Council last updated the Capital Improvement Plan in January of 2021. This plan will be reviewed and officially approved in December of 2023.
