School spirit is picking up in Wayland, as the WACO Community School District celebrates Homecoming next week. Warrior students will spend the weekend building parade floats and decorating the school’s hallways and sidewalks in preparation of the festivities.

Wayland residents, parents, and alumni have multiple opportunities to watch the fall athletes in action during the week, beginning with junior high and JV football games versus English Valleys on Monday. Cross Country runners have their meet in Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday, Volleyball plays in a tournament on Thursday, and it’s more football on Friday, with junior high hosting Easton Valley at 5 and varsity taking on the River Hawks at 7.

This year’s spirit days include Barbie and Ken on Monday, BBQ Dads and Soccer Moms on Tuesday, Favorite Sports Team on Wednesday, Rhyme Time on Thursday, in which students wear clothing that rhymes, and Spirit Day is Friday.

WACO’s Boom Night will begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the High School’s Bob Hilmer Court, and features a pep rally, coronation, boom boom volleyball and powder puff football. This year’s Homecoming Court includes Halle Shelman, Haley Hughes, Marie Farmer, Reece Oswald, Chase Waterhouse, and Colton Leichty. The Homecoming Parade begins on Friday at 4:30 p.m. on Main Street, and the dance follows the football games.
