A Fairfield woman was arrested and charged for threats made against a Jefferson County employee at the end of August.

Thirty-one-year-old Erika Jo King was attempting to obtain juvenile court records over the phone from the Jefferson County Courthouse. When King was notified that these types of records could only be obtained in person, she made multiple threats against the clerk which included killing the employee and “shooting up” the Jefferson County Courthouse. She also called the Wapello County Courthouse and informed them of this plan.

Following the threats, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office secured the Courthouse for the remainder of the day. Since the calls were made from Mahaska County, these threats were also made aware to the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office and King was arrested in Oskaloosa on August 31. She was charged with threat of terrorism, a class D felony, and first-degree harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor.

King has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Monday, September 18.
