The Washington Demons are seeking a bounce-back home football victory tonight when they welcome Grinnell to Case Field for a Week Four showdown you can hear on KCII. Washington nearly climbed back from a double-digit deficit twice last week but lost 23-20 at Fairfield, dropping the Demons to 1-2.
Despite those struggles, stars are starting to emerge for Washington. Quarterback Logan McDole has passed for 336 yards and four touchdowns, but the junior also leads the Demons with 245 rushing yards and three TDs on the ground. Junior wide receiver Mason Morgan has been the big-play threat, piling up 265 yards and four scores on 13 receptions.
The defense has been led by senior linebacker Casen Evans and his team-high 22 tackles, while senior defensive linemen Chase Greiner and Nic Dittrich have combined for five sacks. Washington head coach Nick Ehret tells KCII Sports his guys at the line of scrimmage will need to improve on the Fairfield contest and recapture their form from the first two games.
“We didn’t stop the run very well last week,” Ehret says. “Now, it’s a little different attack, going from Fairfield to Grinnell, but a lot of it starts up front. We’ve got to get lined up right, we’ve got to control our gaps and we’ve got to tackle well. We really kind of had a setback from Burlington to Fairfield, so that’s been the focus for us this week.”
Washington will look to finally beat Grinnell after losing the last four meetings, including a 28-21 defeat at home last season in a game that was tied going into the fourth quarter. Tigers quarterback Brady Coffman was a star in that game, passing for 217 yards and two touchdowns and running for another 106 yards and pair of TDs.
Junior wideout Braden Johnson also had a big night with seven catches for 111 yards and a score and currently leads Grinell in both receptions and tackles for loss. Washington looks to tame the Tigers, and you can hear all the action on 106.1 FM KCII and streaming on KCIIradio.com and the KCII app. Coverage of Demon football begins this evening at 7.
