The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves are riding high with a 3-0 start to the football season, including a pair of wins over playoff teams from last year. One of those was a 34-8 victory over their rivals from WACO last week, helping WMU rise to number two in the 8-man state rankings. Now comes a chance for another signature win, as the Wolves will travel to face a playoff team from last year in Montezuma tomorrow.

Winfield-Mount Union is led by senior Cam Buffington, who is making a case to be the 8-man state player of the year. Buffington has run the ball 38 times for 394 yards and five touchdowns, and the Iowa commit has also piled up 265 yards and six TDs on eight receptions.

Senior running back Cole Milks has also been explosive on the offensive end, rushing for 211 yards and four scores on 18 carries, while junior quarterback Jake Edwards has thrown for 502 yards and seven touchdowns. The WMU defense has been led by senior Abram Edwards, with 13-and-a-half tackles, four tackles for loss and two sacks; and senior Kael Johnson, who also has four tackles for loss and a pair of sacks.

The Wolves will try to keep up with a Montezuma team that is consistently one of the highest-scoring teams in the state and is putting up over 58 points per game in a 3-1 start. New starting quarterback Brady Boulton has already thrown for over 700 yards and 17 TDs, nine of which have gone to all-state wide receiver Garrett Watts. The Braves have won the previous seven meetings. Winfield-Mount Union kicks off at Montezuma tomorrow afternoon at 3.
