In this year’s November election, the City of Winfield will vote on two open seats for City Council as well as the mayor’s seat. Anyone interested in joining the City Council has until Thursday, September 21 to complete the necessary paperwork.

Nomination papers can be picked up at the City Office or online at the Secretary of State website. Nominees must obtain at least 10 eligible signatures, but are recommended to get more in the event that any are challenged and subsequently thrown out.

All open seats are for a four-year term. In order to hold office in the city, a candidate must be an eligible elector, meeting the same qualifications required to vote, and be a resident of the city he or she plans to serve. The City of Winfield conducts business on the second Wednesday of each month at 5 p.m. with additional work sessions and special meetings scheduled as necessary.
