The Sigourney Savages continued their undefeated start to conference volleyball play Monday night with a straight-sets victory over Iowa Valley at home. Sigourney took the first set 25-13, and while Iowa Valley kept it close the rest of the way, the Savages held on to take the next two frames 25-23 and 25-20.
Senior outside hitter Amiya Smallwood led Sigourney with 10 kills and added nine digs and a blocked shot. Junior middle Reagan Clarahan finished with seven kills and two blocks, while senior setter Ava Fineran added a kill, four serving aces and seven digs to the 19 assists she handed out, helping the Savages improve to 3-0 in the South Iowa Cedar League and 8-4 overall.
The Keota Eagles were also winners in conference action Monday, winning a five-set marathon with Tri-County. Keota rallied from losing the first two sets at home 25-20 and 25-16, as the Eagles took the next two frames 25-22 and 25-18 before winning the decisive fifth set 15-9.
The Eagles get their first league victory of the season and end a five-game losing streak to rise to 6-4. While Keota next plays Iowa Valley tomorrow night, Sigourney travels to Belle Plaine.
