Sigourney-Keota will look to play spoiler for a homecoming celebration when the Cobras face Pleasantville in a district football showdown tomorrow night. SK has reeled off three straight wins since losing the season opener, including a 67-0 victory over Cardinal last week.
The Cobra defense has been the star of the show, posting two shutouts in the last three weeks and giving up just over 14 points per game this season. Senior linebacker Jake Moore leads Sigourney-Keota with 20 tackles, but the real strength of the unit might be at the line of scrimmage. Junior Ashton Schwab and seniors Evan Vittetoe and Aiden McGuire each have at least 16-and-a-half total tackles, five tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
On offense, senior Kale Clarahan has made a huge impact for the Cobras of late, rushing for 407 yards and seven touchdowns over the last two weeks. Quarterback Sawyer Stout has also been an impact player running the ball with 219 yards and two TDs while also averaging over five yards per carry, and senior Cole Kindred has 336 yards from scrimmage on 29 touches.
SK will try to move to 2-0 in Class 1A District 6 by knocking off a Pleasantville team that is 2-2 overall. Senior Caleb Cook has been the heart and soul of the offense, running for 655 yards and nine scores on 80 carries, while the Trojan defense has forced 10 takeaways. Sigourney-Keota has won each of the last two meetings by a combined score of 77-13 and look to push past Pleasantville again tomorrow evening starting at 7.
