At approximately 8 p.m. on Tuesday, the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 500 block of Russell Street in Oakville for a report of an assaulted victim who had lost consciousness during the assault. The suspect, later identified as 41-year-old Edward Thomas of Oakville, had reportedly fled the residence and ran into a cornfield near 3rd Street.
Support was called in to assist in the search, including Louisa County Emergency Management and drone, Oakville Fire and Rescue, Wapello Ambulance, and the Burlington Police Department’s K9 Unit. Deputies along with Oakville Fire and Rescue set a perimeter while the drone located Thomas. It was then that the K9 Unit was used to bring him out of the field without injury or incident.
Thomas was taken into custody and charged with aggravated misdemeanor domestic assault and interference with official acts. Following a full investigation, Thomas was also found to have an active nationwide felony probation violation warrant from Arkansas. He was taken to the Louisa County Jail on bond and detainer.
The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the apprehension by the Burlington Police Department, Oakville Fire and Rescue, Louisa County EMA, witnesses, and the Wapello Ambulance Service.
