Activities have already begun in the Columbus Community School District as Homecoming is celebrated next week.
This year’s theme is “Toon Into Homecoming” and each high school class is spending the weekend decorating a section of hallway to match their assigned cartoon show. Once the decorations are complete, the main gym will be the site of Coronation on Sunday at 6 p.m. The 2023 Homecoming Court includes Noemy Navarro-Ayala, Lecet Quiroz, Dakota Storm, Alexa Alcala, Maribel Montiel, Timothy Hills Carrier, Cael Phillips, Kaden Amigon, Cole Storm, and Damien Vergara.
The school week starts off with a bang, as the cheerleaders, along with staff members of their choosing will present a dance on Monday during Wildcat Success. Tuesday’s activities are powderpuff football and volleyball beginning at 6 p.m., the Columbus Homecoming parade is downtown on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., and skits will be performed on Friday. Also on Friday is the pep assembly, leading up to the football game against Louisa-Muscatine at 7.
Dress-up days at the High School next week are Cartoon Character Monday, Anything-But-A-Backpack Tuesday, Barbie vs. Ken Wednesday, Soccer Moms vs. BBQ Dads Thursday, and Spirit Day Friday. At Roundy Elementary, Monday is Pajama Day, Tuesday is Team Day, Wednesday is Mismatched Day, Thursday is Class Color Day, and Friday is Blue and White Day.
Homecoming concludes at Columbus on Saturday, September 30 with the dance in the High School cafeteria from 8-11 p.m.
