Make it back-to-back wins for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team after a dominant 42-7 victory over Davis County at Mustang Stadium in Bloomfield Friday. After spending a week of practice focused on faster starts, Mid-Prairie delivered. On the sixth snap, safety Dylan Henry picked a Carter Will pass and 74 yards later made a house call to give the Hawks a 7-0 lead. Less than 10 minutes later, Mid-Prairie linebacker Landry Gingerich jumped on a fumble for another takeaway. The Golden Hawks cashed that in when quarterback Brady Weber capped an eight play 50 yard drive with a five yard scoring run to double the lead.
The second frame started with a Davis County punt. That immediately turned into an eight play 72 yard Mid-Prairie drive finishing with a fourth down scoring toss of 34 yards down the seam from Weber to this week’s JET Physical Therapy Football Athlete of the Week, running back Hudson Ehrenfelt, and the first 20 of the game belonged to the Hawks. Before half, it was another stop and and another score, Davis County punted from mid-field and Mid-Prairie went 81 yards on eight snaps as Weber did the honors with his second five yard scoring run of the night to make it 27-0 at the break.
The Golden Hawks got the ball after half and moved immediately down the field 74 yards on 11 plays, ending with Ehrenfelt’s second touchdown, this one a six yard rush, combined with Weber’s two, made it a running clock at 35-0. Davis County went backward on their next drive, and the Hawks flew down the field one last time, 11 plays, 60 yards, with Gingerich getting his first TD of the year on a two-yard dive to make it 42-0. The Mustangs broke up the shut out late, with a nine yard Hank Bulecheck touchdown rush. After the game, Golden Hawk head coach Daren Lambert talked about the fast start, his team’s play on both sides of the ball, and his standouts. Lambert said, “The big play by Dylan Henry, a senior leader. Can’t ask for a better start to a game than a pick-six. That sends a message. We came to play. It’s excited to see the guys respond to the challenge that we gave them during the week. We extremely well in assignment football on defense. Guys controlled their gaps while making plays on top of it. We wanted to spread them out and some points, and others keep it inside. Hudson (Ehrenfelt) has had some success over the last few games, so we knew that they were going to key on him. He did a great job tonight on the perimeter and running up the middle. We ran a couple of plays where we pull some guys underneath and the quarterback can pull it or give it away. Brady (Weber) got a couple of nice touchdown runs. Then our receivers stepped up and made some big catches. There were some times where they got us some big chunk plays to put us in the red zone so we could finish. Our front five did a tremendous job, they controlled the game. They controlled the tempo. They really wore them down. They got confident. They started moving people. They deserve all of the praise for the way they played.”
Unofficial numbers include, Mid-Prairie winning the total yards battle 393 to 167. Weber accounted for three total touchdowns, one through the air on 11 of 15 passing for 120 yards, and a pair of rushing scores. Ehrenfelt had 17 touches, 171 all-purpose yards, a rushing score and a touchdown grab. Cobi Hershberger caught four balls for 46 yards. On defense, Henry had a pick and Gingerich a fumble recovery.
