The Washington Demons could not keep up with Keokuk in a district and conference showdown Friday night. Washington fell 47-0 at Keokuk in Week Five of the high school football season, with the Chiefs scoring a touchdown on each of their first five possessions to lead 33-0 before halftime.
The Demons gained just 145 yards of offense. Sophomore running back Kael Williams led the rushing attack with 60 yards on 13 carries. On defense, senior Alec Ulin led Washington with nine tackles, while fellow linebacker Casen Evans made six total stops. After the game, Demon head coach Nick Ehret told KCII Sports that his team will need to keep moving forward.
“We knew [Keokuk was] going to be good coming in,” Ehret said. “It starts with their quarterback. He’s a very good player [and] they’ve got weapons all over the place. They handled us up front. [They are a] good team [and] we knew it would be a battle going in.”
Along with losing their first game of the season in Class 3A District 4, Washington has now lost three straight to fall to 1-2 in the Southeast Conference and 1-4 overall. The Demons are returning home this week and will be celebrating homecoming when they welcome Mount Pleasant to town this Friday. You can hear the game on 106.1 FM KCII and streaming on KCIIradio.com and the KCII app starting Friday night at 6:45.
