kalona-fall-festival-5

The Kalona Fall Festival makes its return this week, as the two-day-celebration begins on Friday. Residents and visitors alike are invited to the annual event, with something for all ages.

Managing Director for the Kalona Historical Society, Nancy Roth, tells KCII about the festival’s storied past. “When the Historical Society started back in 1970, the Fall Festival was something that was done to generate money to help fund the refurbishing of all of the historical buildings that were coming in. So it kind of just became an annual tradition. To me this is just a way to show all of the history that we represent here, but involve the community with all of the wonderful local foods that we have, all of the handcrafts that we have, we do some live demonstrations, and a lot more activities that go on.”

From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, September 29 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, food, live music, and kids activities will fill the Kalonal Historical Village. These include carriage rides, an agriculture tent, performances from Hillcrest Music and the Mid-Prairie bands and choirs, grilled meats and apple fritters, and live demonstrations like weaving and an antique dog treadmill. The new Wahl Museum and Streetscape will also be open to bring Kalona’s history to life.

Admission is $8 for adults, $3 for children ages 5-12, and kids 4 and under are free. Admission is good for both days, with public parking at the Kalona City Park and Sales Barn lot. For more information, including a full schedule of events, click here
