The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team continues their climb in the Class 3A poll issued by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. The Hawks are up one spot this week from 10th to 9th. Mid-Prairie has won eight in a row and are tied at the top of the River Valley Conference. The Golden Hawks went 5-0 Saturday to win the South Tama Tournament, sweeping opponents Lisbon, Belle Plaine, Grinnell, Waterloo East and the home Trojans.
Statistically, Mid-Prairie is in the top 10 of 3A in five different team categories. The Hawks lead the state with 662 assists, a .349 kill efficiency rating and 174 aces. They are second in the state with 682 kills. Mid-Prairie’s 1009 digs are eighth in 3A. The Golden Hawks also have several individuals in the top 10 of 3A. Callie Huber is second with a .449 kill efficiency rating. Jovi Evans is third at .412. Dakota Mitchell is fourth in 3A with 323 digs and fourth with 41 aces. Evans is eighth with 33 aces. Evans leads the Hawks with 353 assists and 195 kills. Huber’s 45 blocks are best on the team. Mid-Prairie is 19-3 and will travel to Tipton Thursday.
