In the heart of the cross country season, local runners are appearing in the latest rankings from the Iowa Association of Track Coaches.

In Class 3A, the Washington Demon boys are No. 7 this week, down one spot from a week ago. The Demons have one ranked runner in their lineup, senior Micah Rees remains No. 3 in the most recent individual rankings. The Washington Demon girls are No. 20 in Class 3A this week, down from 12th a week ago. Individually, sophomore Iris Dahl bursts on the scene this week at No. 16 in the top 30. Washington cleaned up at their home meet Tuesday, winning both the boy’s and girl’s team championships led by Rees as the overall boys champion and Dahl third in the girls race. Washington will run next at Wartburg Saturday.

In Class 2A, the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls have ascended back to the top spot after spending last week at No. 2. The Hawks have two ranked runners in their lineup with senior Danielle Hostetler still standing at No. 1 as she has all season. Freshman Brooklyn Stutzman makes her first appearance in the individual rankings this year, checking in at No. 29. The Golden Hawk boys are the No. 3 team in Class 2A this week, down one slot from a week ago. Mid-Prairie has three ranked boys runners including junior Emmett Swartzentruber at No. 9, down from six last week, junior Jayse Yoder at No. 14, down from No. 12 last week and junior Preston Yutzy at No. 22, down from 18th a week ago. The Golden Hawk boys and girls ran in Iowa City Monday, with the girls winning the team championship, led by individual champ Hostetler and the boys finishing as runners-up, paced by individual winner Swartzentruber. The Golden Hawks run next on Saturday at Wartburg College.

In Class 1A, Hillcrest Academy freshman Marie Yoder makes her first career appearance in the rankings at No. 28. The Raven finished as runner-up at Burlington last week with a new PR. Hillcrest next runs Thursday at Iowa City High.
