The Columbus Wildcats have found their groove on the football field and will look to extend those vibes into their homecoming celebration tomorrow night when Columbus hosts Louisa-Muscatine. Since a late touchdown gave Lisbon a 34-28 win, the Wildcats have picked up back-to-back victories by a combined 87 points to reach 3-2.
While senior running back Kaden Amigon continues his all-state pace with 924 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground, junior Riley Kaalberg is emerging as a stellar second option. His 255 rushing yards against Highland last week raised his season totals to 532 yards and nine TDs.
The defense continues to stifle opponents as well, as sophomore defensive back Tyson Kaalberg’s 28 total tackles and senior lineman Russell Coil’s eight tackles for loss are leading the way for a Columbus unit that is giving up almost 19-and-a-half points per game.
The Wildcats will look to earn a fourth straight victory over a Louisa-Muscatine squad that has not won a game so far this season. Despite quarterback Finnegan Cline rushing for a team-high 177 yards, the Falcons are averaging only six points and 148 yards per contest. Columbus tries to keep both the homecoming festivities and their success on the field rolling by facing Louisa-Muscatine tomorrow evening, with kickoff at 7.
