The Mid-Prairie Community School District Board of Education met in regular session on Monday. The proceedings began with the Hawk Highlight presented by family and consumer science teacher Glenda Seward. Seward spoke to the board about the Eighth Grade Etiquette Meal that the District has put on for the last two years. Not only does it give eighth graders the chance to practice eating in a nice restaurant, but it allows the high school students in her class to prepare a full-course meal. Plans are to hold the event on the final Friday of April.

Focusing on student learning, the board had a discussion on concurrent enrollment, and is exploring options for core classes. A special education field trip was approved, as students will be going to the Niabi Zoo in Illinois on Friday, October 6.

Turning to school finances, the board approved a resolution on their intent to continue the Instructional Support Levy to fiscal year 2029. A second public hearing for the levy will be held on Monday, October 9 at 6:45 p.m. Business Manager, Jeff Swartzentruber presented the Annual Treasurer’s Report, which was accepted. The board also approved a 28E agreement with West Branch for the Home School Assistance Program, and two resolutions: one for special education deficit spending authority, and another for limited English proficiency additional allowable growth.

The Mid-Prairie Community School District Board of Education’s next meeting will be held on Monday, October 9 at 6:15 p.m. in the Central Office Community Room.
