The Hillcrest Academy Raven cross country team steps on the big school stage tonight in Iowa City when they take the course for the City High Bud Williams Invitational. Hillcrest is coming off of a big night at Burlington last week. The boys finished fourth in the team standings with 107 points, led by junior Jesse Blossom in fourth place. Blossom, along with teammates Jeremiah Danker and Kyle Neuschwander, finishing 36th and 37th respectively, all ran personal bests. For the Hillcrest girls, freshman phenom Marie Yoder was runner-up in a new personal best time. Fellow Raven teammates Rya Scott and Brynna O’Rourke in 12th and 36th respectively also ran personal bests. Yoder enters tonight’s action ranked No. 28 in Class 1A in the latest poll issued by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches.
The Ravens are joined at tonight’s meet by the No. 6 in Class 4A Ankeny Centennial girls and their No. 19 boys, Cedar Rapids Jefferson, the No. 9 in Class 3A Clear Creek Amana girls and their No. 10 boys, the No. 17 Danville boys and their girls, the No. 2 in Class 4A Dubuque Senior girls and their No. 19 boys, the No. 9 in Class 4A Iowa City High girls and their No. 14 boys, the No. 13 in Class 4A Iowa City Liberty boys and their No. 19 girls, the No. 17 in Class 4A Iowa City West boys and girls, New London, Ottumwa, the No. 8 in Class 1A Pekin boys and their No. 17 girls, the No. 4 in Class 4A Pleasant Valley girls and their No. 5 boys and the No. 16 in Class 4A Cedar Rapids Prairie girls and their boys. Action gets underway at 4:30 and continues into the evening in Iowa City.
