Earlier this week, the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Morning Sun area for a report of an individual experiencing a mental health crisis. Assistance from the Columbus Junction Police Department, Morning Sun Ambulance, and Wapello Ambulance diffused the situation, and the individual was provided with the necessary care.

As Suicide Prevention Month comes to a close, the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office takes incidents like this to remind Iowans that mental health services are available 24/7 all year round. Anyone experiencing a mental health crisis can call their office at 319-523-4371, or call the National Suicide Hotline at 988. Louisa County has a mobile crisis unit servicing Washington, Keokuk, Jefferson, and Henry counties as well.

Crisis services are funded by the Mental Health Agency of Southeast Iowa Region, and provided at no cost to the individual. If desired, they will connect a person in need to their existing treatment team, or an agency of their choosing. To reiterate, anyone facing challenges and crises in life are always able to call the National Suicide Hotline at 988.
