As Week Six of the high school football season kicks off, it’s also homecoming week for the Washington Demons, who are hoping to add to the celebration by beating their rivals from Mount Pleasant in a game you can hear tonight on KCII. The Demons are looking to change the momentum of their season after losing three straight games to fall to 1-4.

Washington will need its best players to rise to the occasion. Junior quarterback Logan McDole has rushed for 283 yards and passed for another 504, while sophomore Kael Williams has started to hit his stride with 29 carries for 215 yards and three touchdowns over the last two weeks.

The Demon defense will look for seniors Chase Greiner and Nic Dittrich to apply pressure to the quarterback and build on their six combined sacks, while senior linebacker Casen Evans is sure to be around the football all night, as he leads the team with 40-and-a-half total tackles. Head coach Nick Ehret tells KCII Sports that his team will need to execute their game plan when the preparation ends and the game begins.

“We’ve had a good week of practice,” Ehret says, “[but] we thought we had a good week of practice last week. It’s got to translate onto the field. Not to take anything away from Keokuk, but a lot of the issues that we had last Friday were self-inflicted, [like] penalties that killed drives or led to scores, [or] some schematic things [like] not getting lined up right. It’s just a lot of things that we have to shore up [and] the boys know that. They show up ready for work every week, and like I said, we’ve had a good week of practice. We’ve just got to show that on the field.”

Washington is hoping to earn both a district and Southeast Conference win against a Mount Pleasant team that is winless this season. Junior Payton Walker and senior Jurha Tuner have been playmakers with a combined 702 yards from scrimmage and five total TDs, but the Panthers are only averaging 14 points and 206 yards per contest as a team.

The Demons downed the Panthers 54-20 last season and have won 13 straight meetings in the series. Washington renews their rivalry with Mount Pleasant in the 2023 homecoming game, and you can hear all the action on 106.1 FM KCII as well as streaming on KCIIradio.com this evening starting with pregame coverage at 6:15.
