The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves put together a strong showing in their home cross country meet, as the Wolves’ boys took second in the team standings Thursday at the WMU Invitational. Two top-10 finishes led the way for Winfield-Mount Union, as junior Kohlby Newsom finished third in just over 18 minutes and senior Gabriel Hemsworth was sixth in just over 19 minutes. Senior Ty Scropil was also 15th, while sophomore Bowen Thomson was 19th.

The Columbus Wildcat boys were fourth in team scoring, led by senior Damian Vergara’s 10th-place time of 19 minutes 45 seconds and freshman Cade Storm claiming the last spot in the top 20. The best finish for the Lone Tree Lions came from freshman Brock Nebergall, who was 14th, while WACO junior Keriran Luitjens led the Warriors by finishing 23rd.

On the girls’ side, Lone Tree sophomore Vivian Zaruba crossed the finish line in just over 24 minutes to round out the top 10. Freshman Iris Garza and junior Ariana Vergara finished 14th and 15th, respectively, for Columbus, while the best time for Winfield-Mount Union came from senior Afton Wilkerson in 23rd.
