When construction began on the Wellman-Scofield Public Library in the spring, library services were moved to the old Driscoll Building at 257 8th Street. Next Wednesday, Bender’s Bar and Grill in Wellman is hosting a fundraiser to continue enhancing the library’s programming.

From 5-8 p.m. on October 4, a portion of proceeds received from food and drink at Bender’s will go to the Wellman-Scofield Public Library as staff prepare to move back into the renovated building.

Library Director, Carrie Geno, shared updates on the project with KCII. “We received a grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation to expand into the unused portion of the City Hall building. So we are working on breaking down walls and expanding into that space which is doubling our library size. Construction is going well. All the demo is done, framing is up, and big changes should be happening this week with drywall going up.”

This extra space will allow for more books, and will also include a new program room. The project is anticipated to be complete by the end of October.
