Tuesday, the Hillcrest Academy Raven volleyball team broke out their brooms on the visitors from Cedar Valley Christian, sweeping the non-conference match in straight sets. The Ravens scored the win 25-20, 25-5 and 25-14. Leading Ravens in the stat column included Claire Withrow with 23 assists and 13 digs, Lydia Beachy with 14 digs and six aces, 10 kills and five aces for Malia Yoder and Kylee Statler with five kills and four blocks. Following the match, Yoder, Statler, Beachy and Withrow joined KCII Sports to talk about the win. They said, “We wanted to cut down on those simple mistakes that we can control, so we don’t beat ourselves. We wanted the chemistry to be there. We were out of it in the first couple of points in the first set, we came out flat. Then we just locked in. I think Malia (Yoder) was really aggressive with her hitting, she got us started in the first set when we weren’t doing so hot. Claire (Withrow) had a lot of good dumps to the donut. Malia (Yoder’s) passing was really on point tonight and the same with Kylee (Statler’s) blocking.”
The victory snaps a four match losing streak for the Ravens and moves them to 7-11 on the year, ahead of a match tomorrow night at Lone Tree.
