The Columbus Wildcats will be the first area football team to try and keep up their recent winning ways when they take the field tonight against Van Buren County. Columbus is riding a three-game winning streak that raises their record to 4-2, with all the victories in district play and a chance to clinch a playoff spot growing closer.

The Wildcats have run wild thanks to a two-headed monster in the backfield. All-state senior running back Kaden Amigon has over 1,000 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns, but junior Riley Kaalberg is capable of the big play as well, piling up 722 yards from scrimmage and 13 total TDs while averaging just over 15 yards per touch.

The Columbus defense has been a tough nut to crack, giving up less than 19 points per game. While Amigon and senior defensive lineman Russell Coil get into the backfield with a combined 18 tackles for loss, sophomores Elliot Wessley and Tyson Kaalberg stop everything else, teaming for better than 60 total tackles and seven interceptions.

The Wildcats will be facing a Van Buren team that is 3-2 in Class A District 6 and 3-3 overall. Junior quarterback Izaak Loeffler has been the straw that stirs the drink for the Warriors, passing for 845 yards and nine touchdowns while also rushing for 348 yards and another four scores. Senior receiver Lucas Fett has been his top target, hauling in 37 passes for 439 yards and eight TDs.

While VBC has won the last two meetings with the ‘Cats, the last matchup was in 2019. Columbus collides with Van Buren County this evening starting with kickoff at 7.
