The Washington Demons will look to build on last week’s victory on the high school football field by getting a Week Seven win at home against Davenport Assumption in a game you can hear tonight on KCII.

Washington ended a three-game losing streak last week by rolling past Mount Pleasant 42-7, earning their first district win of the season and improving to 2-4 overall. The Demons got another big game from sophomore running back Kael Williams, who rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns to lead the offense and push his season average to six yards per carry.

The defense got back on track as well, giving up just 133 total yards. Senior linebacker Casen Evans has been flying to the football, leading the team with 51 tackles, while seniors Chase Greiner and Nic Dittrich have put pressure on opposing quarterbacks with six combined sacks. Washington head coach Nick Ehret tells KCII Sports that his guys on the defensive front will be one of the biggest keys to victory.

“It all starts with the line of scrimmage,” Ehret says. “We’ve got to control that. We have to stop the run [and] that’s what we’ve been game-planning for most of the week. [Assumption’s] quarterback is dynamic, and they have some playmakers. They’re an athletic team, but it still all runs through the run game. If you can get the run stopped and make them throw maybe a little bit more than they want to, that’s going to be good for us.”

The Demons are facing an Assumption team that was state ranked at one point and is 4-2 overall, but a loss last week dropped the Knights to 1-1 in Class 3A District 4. Assumption senior QB Jake Timmons has throw for over 1,000 yards, while senior running back Angelo Jackson has also been a force with over 890 yards and 13 TDs on the ground.

Washington lost their last meeting with Davenport Assumption in 2017. The Demons take on the Knights in a district clash this evening, and you can hear all the action from Case Field on 106.1 FM KCII as well as streaming on KCIIradio.com and the KCII app. Pregame coverage starts at 7 o’clock.
