On Wednesday, October 4, Winfield-Mt. Union was named the winner of the 2023 School Mascot Challenge, presented by the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative.

The Mascot Challenge pins Iowa schools head-to-head in a bracket style competition which are then voted on by the public. The first schools to register for an Annual Walk are the ones selected for the Challenge. After edging out IKM-Manning of Western Iowa, WMU not only claims the title, but also receives $1,000 to start or fund a healthy incentive project.

Wednesday was also the day for the 13th Annual Walk, in which Iowa schools, organizations, businesses, and cities join together to walk for 30 minutes. The Iowa Healthiest State Initiative works to create awareness and integrate solutions to improve the physical, social, and emotional well-being of Iowans, with an overall goal of ensuring everyone can live their healthiest life.
