KCII area runners were in the spotlight Thursday at Central Lee at the Southeast Iowa Superconference Championship cross country meet. The top individual finishes came on the girls side where Hillcrest Academy freshman Marie Yoder was second in the field with a time of 20:48, behind Pekin’s Chloe Glosser and her championship time of 19:54. Other Raven performers included Rya Scott 19th, Delaney Shaw 33rd, and Brynna O’Rourke 55th.
The Columbus Wildcats had the top area girls team finish, placing third with 83 points, Pekin won the league title with 32. Iris Garza of Columbus also went top 10, placing seventh in 21:57 to lead the Wildcats. Other Columbus finishers included Ariana Vergara 14th, Isabel Rendon 23rd, Naveiah Garza 32nd, Amelia Fulton 46th, Frannie Sosa 47th and Kimberly Gonzalez 48th.
The Highland Huskies had Siena Stanerson go 16th in 23:29 to lead the charge, Halle Hazelett was 43rd.
Lone Tree’s Vivian Zaruba led the way in 17th with a time of 23:38. Other Lady Lions included Jazmine Nino 36th and Abby Zaruba 57th.
Winfield-Mt. Union’s Afton Wilkerson had the top team time with 25:35 for 38th. Other Lady Wolves included Jana Isanta Vila 41st and Maggie Hutton 69th.
The WACO Warriors were paced by Justine Lynn 60th in 28:35. Other Warriors included Sarah Craun 63rd and Deedra Graber 68th.
Top area boys team finish was Columbus in sixth with 143 points. Mediapolis won the championship with 50. The Wildcats were led by Damian Vergara 17th in 18:39. Other Columbus runners included Cade Storm 21st, Ian Estudillo 27th, Bryan Tlatenchi 35th, Ellis Hills-Carrier 52nd, Ryan Villa 55th, Juan Alcala 65th, Fernando Erazo 76th, Josh Almanza 78th, Drake Marin 80th, Dakota Aney 93rd, and Noah Razo 104th.
The Winfield-Mt. Union boys placed seventh with 151 points. Kohlby Newsom was 10th in 18:10. Other runners for the Wolves included Gabriel Hemsworth 13th, Bowen Thomson 31st, Ty Scorpil 45th, and Jacob Nelson 69th.
Hillcrest Academy was 10th in the team standings with 241 points. Micah Gerber led the Ravens in 23rd with a time of 19:12. Other Raven runners included Jesse Blossom 29th, Isaac Beachy 68th, Braden Hartsock 92nd, Jeremiah Danker 95th, Micah Kacmarynski 106th and Kyle Neuschwander 116th.
The Highland Huskies were 11th with 317 points. Brock Thoman led the Huskies in 58th place with a time of 21:10. Other Highland competitors included Jackson Schneider 90th, Brayden Zywiec 94th, Jacob Schneider 97th, Isaac Giesmann 98th, Chase Hickenbottom 101st, Jack Krotz 102nd, Jackson Robinson 113th and Spencer Tompkin 114th.
Neither Lone Tree or WACO posted team scores. Top finishes for the Lions included Brock Nebergall 30th in 19:36, followed by Taylor Alberhasky 72nd and Joey Birtcher 99th. Keriran Luitjens was the top Warrior, placing 43rd in 20:34, followed by Tristan Luitjens 56th and Deacon Bird 84th.
