The Lone Tree Lions suffered a setback on the football field Friday night, falling at home 44-13 to Central City. With a chance to take over sole possession of first place in their 8-man district, Lone Tree fell behind 14-0 after a quarter of play. The Lions were still down two scores at halftime, but seventh-ranked Central City shutout Lone Tree in the third quarter and added two more touchdowns, giving the Wildcats a comfortable lead.
Lions senior quarterback Ethan Bockelman had a efficient night throwing the football, completing 11 of 14 passes for 107 yards and hitting senior receiver Jader Sanchez for a touchdown. But Bockelman was also sacked six times, and junior Maddox Jondle’s 34 yards on 12 carries was the top total on a night where Lone Tree rushed for a season-low 59 yards as a team.
The Lions have a four-game win streak snapped to fall to 5-2 and lose their first District 5 game of the season. Lone Tree still has a playoff berth clinched and will conclude the regular season this coming Friday by traveling to face Easton Valley.
