Sigourney-Keota football continued to cruise and clinched a playoff spot with an 82-0 victory over Colfax-Mingo in their homecoming game Friday. The Cobras led 42-0 by the end of the first quarter and never slowed down.
SK needed to only run 16 plays on offense to rack up 356 yards and score nine touchdowns. Freshman Ike Molyneux scored two TDs and had 82 rushing yards on three carries, while junior Isaac Bruns also scored twice and finished with 73 yards on three rushes. Bruns and Molyneux also each scored a defensive touchdown, with Bruns returning a fumble to the end zone and Molyneux running back a pick-six.
Freshman Ayden Galindo and seniors Sawyer Stout and Kale Clarahan each had rushing TDs, while junior Ashton Schwab’s four-and-a-half total tackles and two tackles for loss led a Sigourney-Keota defense that, in addition to its third shutout of the year, kept Colfax-Mingo from netting positive yardage gained.
The Cobras win their sixth straight to improve to 4-0 in district play and 6-1 overall. SK will be moving on to the playoffs from Class 1A District 6, but they will first wrap up the regular season this coming Friday night when they host Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
