The Washington Demons suffered a home defeat in Week Seven of the high school football season, falling 35-0 versus Davenport Assumption Friday night at Case Field. After Assumption used a 6-play, 57-yards opening drive to get quarterback Jake Timmons a rushing touchdown, the Knights scored twice more before halftime to lead 21-0 and controlled the game the rest of the way.
Washington junior quarterback Logan McDole had an efficient passing night, completing 11 out of 18 attempts for 120 yards. Junior wide receiver Oliver Hobscheidt also led the Demons with five receptions for 53 yards, but rushing for a season-low 14 yards as a team proved to be a serious setback for Washington. After the game, Demon head coach Nick Ehret told KCII Sports that he felt his team was closer to a different result than the final score might indicate.
“We couldn’t really move the ball great offensively at times,” Ehret said. “We got stops, at certain points here and there, but we made some mistakes that led to a couple touchdowns. Guys played hard, we just didn’t execute well enough, and Davenport Assumption’s a good team.”
The loss drops Washington to 1-2 in Class 3A District 4 and 2-5 overall. The Demons will next travel to face the fifth-ranked team in the state in Mount Vernon. You can hear the game this coming Friday night starting at 6:45 on 106.1 FM KCII.
