Ravens past, present, and future flock to Kalona this weekend for the Hillcrest Academy Homecoming & Alumni Family Weekend.

While still a relatively new event, the celebration kicks off tonight at 7 with the annual alumni soccer match. As Director of Advancement for Hillcrest Academy, Jeremy Ours, explains, “For years and years, we’ve had local alumni get together to play soccer on our campus and when we started doing homecoming seven years ago, it just seemed like a natural fit to put those guys and the game that they play together on that weekend. Often times there’s parents and grandparents that like to come out and relive those days of when their son or daughter played soccer, and so that’s usually a well-attended event to kick things off.”

Saturday begins with the Joetown Classic 5K Run/Walk, which was first held in 1984. Registration can be completed up until the races, starting with the kids at 9:30 a.m. and the adults at 10. Unique to the celebration this year, a solar eclipse is set to occur Saturday shortly after the 5K. Everence has provided special glasses for guests to view the eclipse, weather permitting.

Saturday afternoon is the annual Pork Supper on campus, hosted by the junior class. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for adults 65 years and older, $6 for children 4-12, and kids 3 and under are free. Alumni Family Weekend comes to a close Saturday night with The Hymn Project, a concert featuring professional musicians, including Hillcrest alum Hoi Ting Davidson. The concert starts at 7 p.m. in Celebration Hall with tickets available at badangleevents.org.

The KCII Big Red Radio will be on campus Saturday, broadcasting live from 9 a.m. to noon. The one to count on to take you where the action is, is AM and FM KCII.

UPDATE: As of Friday afternoon, the alumni soccer game has been moved to Saturday at 1 p.m.
