The Columbus Wildcats cruised to a fifth straight win on the football field, defeating Danville 63-18 Friday in the regular-season finale. Columbus built a 28-0 lead by the end of the first quarter on Senior Night and kept on rolling.

The Wildcats had a big night running the football with 523 yards and an average of over 15 yards per rush attempt. All-state senior halfback Kaden Amigon need just 17 carries to post an eye-popping 340 yards and six touchdowns, while junior Riley Kaalberg had 178 yards and two touchdowns on 14 rushes.

Despite Danville receiver Kessler Whaley catching five passes for 221 yards, the Columbus defense came through by forcing four turnovers. Sophomore Tyson Kaalberg had one of those takeaways with an interception and led the Wildcats with six-and-a-half tackles.

Columbus finishes the regular season on a five-game win streak and has a record of 6-2. The Wildcats will open the Class A playoffs this coming Friday night by taking on Maquoketa Valley.
