The Highland Huskies closed out the 2023 football season with a 28-0 victory over Wapello Friday night. After not having a win in over two years, Highland finished off this season with back-to-back victories, including building on a 6-0 halftime lead over Wapello. Holding the Indians to 258 total yards allowed the Huskies to post their first shutout in five years.

The Highland defense was led by junior Logan McFarland’s six-and-a-half total tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss. McFarland also had the game’s only takeaway with an interception, and he kept up his strong play on offense as well, rushing for 159 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.

The Huskies ran wild, piling up 361 yards on the ground. Sage Hartley-Norman rushed for 117 yards and a TD on 20 attempts, while fellow junior Colten Sypherd had six carries for 38 yards.

Freshman quarterback Garrett Beeson also completed a 20-yard scoring pass to junior Ayden Havel as Highland finishes the season with a record of 2-6. The Huskies will graduate four seniors in Remington Fields, Jack Peiffer, Jackson Keller and Nicolas Oriano.
