Two of the area’s top high school volleyball teams got the postseason started with victories, as the WACO Warriors and Sigourney Savages both won first-round matches in their region tournaments last night.

In Class 1A Region 7, WACO took down Iowa Valley in straight sets last night in Wayland, 25-21, 25-23 and 25-19. Sigourney was also a winner at home, sweeping Montezuma 25-22, 25-18 and 25-18 in 1A Region 5.

The Warriors improve to 18-12, while the Savages move to 16-8. While WACO will hit the road for tomorrow night’s next round of regionals against Central City, Sigourney will host conference rival Belle Plaine in the quarterfinals tomorrow evening.
