It’s win-or-go-home time for Washington Demon volleyball tonight as the postseason begins with Washington traveling to face Davenport Assumption in the Class 3A Region 8 quarterfinals. Washington is in the midst of its best season in over a decade, winning 11 of their last 13 matches to reach a record of 17-17 and earn the program’s most wins in a single season since at least 2007.

The Demons have leaned on outside hitter Leighton Messinger to do most of their damage. The sophomore leads the team with 337 kills and 42 serving aces and has also posted 241 digs and 15 blocked shots. Junior Ella Greiner has also been an effective hitter with 184 kills, 36 aces and 264 digs, while sophomore Taylor Miksch finished the regular season with 106 kills, 31 aces, 195 digs and 10 blocks.

Senior middles Caitlin Kroll and Maci Williams have combined for 46 blocks, while junior Isabella Salazar and Ruby Witthoft patrol the back row with a combined 287 digs. Everything is orchestrated by two veteran setters. Senior Remy Messinger handles the front row with 44 kills and 306 assists, while junior Lauren Hinrichsen has put up 333 assists, 31 aces and 127 digs.

Washington will be facing an Assumption team that is 24-7 and ranked fourth in the state in Class 3A. The Knights are the defending 3A state champions and have played in the state final in each of the last three seasons. First serve from Davenport this evening is set for 7 o’clock.
