The Lone Tree Lions have put together their best football season in six years, and they’ll look to add some postseason success when they host Moravia in the first round of the 8-man playoffs tonight. Lone Tree is 6-2 and making their first trip to the playoffs since 2017.
The Lions have a ferocious ground game that averages over 260 rushing yards per game. Senior quarterback Ethan Bockelman is two yards shy of 1,000 for the season and has run for 19 touchdowns, while junior Maddox Jondle has been just as good with 966 yards and 14 TDs on the ground.
The defense has leaned on playmakers like junior Brody Magruder, who has team highs of 58 total tackles, nine tackles for loss and four sacks. Sophomore Emmett Burke has also been flying all over the field with 49 total stops, six tackles for loss, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
Lone Tree will take on a Moravia team that has also only lost twice and is averaging a whopping 52 points per contest. Quarterback Shane Helmick has thrown for over 1,500 yards and 29 touchdowns but also leads the team with 676 yards and 11 scores on the ground. The Lions won their last meeting with the Mohawks in 2020. Lone Tree is pitted against Moravia in the playoffs this evening, with opening kickoff set for 7 o’clock.
