The No. 6 in Class 1A Sigourney-Keota Cobra football team rolled through the opening round of the playoffs Friday, whipping the West Central Valley Wildcats 52-7 in Sigourney. The Cobras delivered the knockout blow early, leading 28-0 after one and enacting the running clock in the second frame, on top 35-0 at half. SK won the second half 17-7, holding the Wildcats off the board until the final period. The Cobras rolled up 412 yards of total offense, 340 on the ground. Sawyer Stout racked up three rushing scores on six carries and 41 yards, Isaac Bruns found the endzone twice on seven carries with a team high 92 yards and Kale Clarahan carried 10 times for 81 yards and a score. Stout connected on one pass in the game, a 52 yard bomb to Cole Kindred for six. Caden Clarahan knocked through a 26 yard field goal. The Cobra defense had six tackles for loss and swiped three takeaways, a fumble recovery each for Jake Moore and Ashton Schwab and a pick for Kale Clarahan. Moore led the team with four stops. This week on the KCII Radio Coaches Corner, SK head coach Jared Jensen talked about his team’s dominant win. Jensen said, “We came out with a sense of urgency and played probably as physical as we have all year long. We played well, offensively, defensively, special teams. We did our jobs. Kale Clarahan had a really solid game. Isaac Bruns showed his ability to get out and go and Cole Kindred had a big night on the ground and through the air. You can try to stop one or two guys but when we’ve got four guys coming at you, it’s pretty tough to stop. All that only works when the offensive line is on the same page and really dominating the line of scrimmage. Our D-line is senior loaded. Our front six is some pretty tough dudes. We do a really good job stopping the run and I felt pretty comfortable with our pass coverage.”

The victory runs the Cobra’s win streak to eight since a loss to PCM in the season opener. West Central Valley finishes the year 3-6. The Cobras advance to this Friday’s second round when they host No. 11 Dike-New Hartford at 7p.m. at the Snake Pit in Sigourney.
