In 2015, WMU Music Instructor, Lindsey Pogmore, discovered Donors Choose, a website that supports teachers and school districts in raising funds for supplies to help student learning. This fall, Pogmore completed her 32nd project through Donors Choose, surpassing the $10,000 mark in total funds raised for the school.
KCII spoke with Pogmore about Donors Choose after she completed a similar project last year. “It’s like a crowd-funding platform that’s only for schools and classrooms. What I’m able to do is look at my own classroom and see what materials I need that would improve the instruction that I’m giving my students, and then I can go shopping for it on the several different websites and companies that they use. Then I talk a little bit about the students I have, the district that we’re in, the demographics of my students, and what impact the materials would have on our students’ learning and get it posted on the website nationally and hope for the best.”
With the funds from the latest project, Pogmore was able to get a Martin electric-acoustic guitar for the music program. To view the three current Donors Choose projects for the Winfield-Mt. Union music department, or to contribute, click here.
