Three KCII area schools are represented in the final cross country rankings of 2023 released Tuesday by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches.

In Class 3A, the Washington Demon boys remain at No. 7 in the team poll. The Demon boys have one ranked runner in the lineup with Micah Rees checking in at No. 3 again this week. The Washington girls are represented in the individual poll by Iris Dahl at 13th, up from 16th a week ago. Washington had a big day at their 3A State Qualifier meet in Pella, with the boys finishing as team runners-up to make the state field, led by Rees’ individual second place finish, while Dahl punched her ticket to Fort Dodge individually, taking fifth place at Pella. The Demon boys and Dahl will run Saturday afternoon at Kennedy Park for State.

In Class 2A, the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls are still the top team in the poll this week. The Hawks have three ranked runners in their lineup with Danielle Hostetler No. 2 again this week. Brooklyn Stutzman breaks into the individual poll at No. 24 and Greta Sieren moves up from 30th to 25th this week. For the Golden Hawk boys, they drop from 10th to 12th in the team rankings. Individually, Emmett Swartzentruber is third in Class 2A, up from seventh a week ago. The Golden Hawk girls and boys both qualified for state as teams at the Williamsburg qualifier meet last week. The girls won the team title, placing all seven in their lineup in the top 18, led by an individual championship for Hostetler. The Golden Hawk boys took third in the team standings with Swartzentruber racing to an individual title. The Golden Hawks will run in Fort Dodge on Saturday for State.

In Class 1A, Winfield-Mt. Union’s Kohlby Newsom re-enters the poll this week at No. 27. Newsom will be on the course at Kennedy Park Friday afternoon for his State race.
