The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves are having one of the best football seasons in school history, and WMU is starting to bring in the accolades for their excellence, as nine Wolves have received all-district honors in District 6 of the 8-man class.

Leading the way is senior Cam Buffington, who was named the district’s defensive Most Valuable Player, and junior Cooper Buffington, who was named the district’s Most Valuable Lineman. Cam Buffington leads Winfield-Mount Union with 83 total tackles and 15 tackles for loss. In addition to 14 tackles for loss and seven-and-a-half sacks on defense, Cooper Buffington leads a WMU line that has paved the way for almost 400 offensive yards per game.

Wolves quarterback Jake Edwards joins the Buffingtons on the first team with 1,175 yards passing and 24 total touchdowns accounted for. Kael Johnson is another first-team selection on the offensive line, while fellow senior Carter Loyd is a first-team receiver with 12 catches for 260 yards and five TDs.

Senior Abram Edwards is a first-team defensive lineman again, as he’s piled up 12.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks so far this season. Cole Milks has three interceptions for Winfield-Mount Union and is a first-team defensive back, while Eli Miller makes the first-team defense as a utility player.

Wolves sophomore lineman Grant Anderson is a second-team choice, while junior Lane Genkinger also receives honorable mention. In addition, WMU’s Scott McCary is named the District 6 Coach of the Year after guiding the team to a district title and an undefeated regular season.

Winfield-Mount Union will be looking to remain unbeaten when they host Moravia in the second round of the state playoffs.  You can hear the game on 106.1 FM KCII as well as streaming on KCIIradio.com Friday night starting at 6:30.
