This year’s edition of Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football has made sure that 2023 will live on in the school’s record book.

As a group, this year’s club has thrown for 1,537 total yards, second most a single season, behind only 2013’s 1,668. The Golden Hawk quarterback room has a combined completion percentage at 60.7%, behind only 2021’s 61.2% and their 113 total completions are second in school history, trailing the 2013 bunch with their 127.

Individually, junior quarterback Brady Weber accounted for six touchdowns in the Hawks first round playoff win over Northeast a week ago, five through the air and one on the ground. That total ties the school record for most in a single game by one player, the second straight week he has met that mark. He’s the only player to do it twice in a career. For the season, Weber is now the school record holder for passing touchdowns in a year with 20, breaking the previous record of 15 from Travis Kern, set in 2003 and 2004. He is second in school history with 1,462 aerial yards, behind only Reid Miller’s 2013 with a school record 1,592 yards. Weber is also second with 109 throwing connections, also behind Miller’s school record 125 in 2013. His 20 scoring throws rank him sixth for a career, tied with Ryan Gent who finished in 2008 and looking up next at 2016 alum Ryan Cortum and 2007 grad Justin Harland with 23. Weber’s 1,536 yards are ninth for a career, trailing eighth place Ryan Cortum with 1,934. His 113 completions are ninth most., also behind Cortum with 114

Senior Dylan Henry has pulled in seven scoring passes this season. That touchdown total places him sixth on the single season list, tied with Clayton Hershberger’s 1973 and eighth for a career, matching Hershberger and 2003 grad Tyler Griffith.

Sophomore running back Hudson Ehrenfelt has found the end zone 16 times this season, giving him the ninth highest total ever for one year. He’s even with Tyler Helmuth from 2021, Jordan Montgomery in 2004 and Kevin Kos from 1975.

Fellow sophomore Kaden Kos has caught six touchdowns in 2023, eighth most in a single year, even with Colin Brenneman’s 2007, Zach Schwartz in 2013 and Colin Weber in 2014.

The Golden Hawks have another chance to add to these numbers when they take the field Friday at No. 10 Prairie City Monroe, in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs. You can hear all of the action live on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and KCIIradio.com, beginning with the Golden Hawk Football Pregame Show at 6:30 and kickoff between the Hawks and Mustangs at 7p.m.
