Halloween is right around the corner, but before the big day the cities of Wellman and Kalona are holding a number of activities to enjoy the holiday.

Beginning on Friday, the Annual Mid-Prairie Trunk or Treat takes place at Mid-Prairie East Elementary from 5:30-7 p.m. The event is free, and includes candy as well as four different food trucks.

On Halloween night, the City of Wellman and the Wellman Community Club are sponsoring another trunk or treat downtown. Running from 6-8 p.m. it begins at City Hall and continues to the bottom of 8th Street. Guests are also welcome to free hot dogs, chips, and water. Wellman’s door-to-door trick-or-treating will be held the same night from 5-8. Anyone in need of a costume is welcome to use the Halloween Costume Checkout at the Wellman Scofield Public Library.

In Kalona, festivities begin on Saturday with the Beyond the Grave Cemetery Walk at Sharon Hill Cemetery. Hosted by the Kalona Chamber of Commerce, cost is $12 for adults and takes place from 5-7 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 p.m. on Sunday.

The Kalona Historical Village is holding the Jack-O-Lantern Jaunt on Tuesday October 31st from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Kids can trick-or-treat at the historical buildings, enjoy games, crafts, a movie, and refreshments. Much like Wellman, the City of Kalona’s trick-or-treating is scheduled for Halloween night from 5-8 p.m.

UPDATE: The Beyond the Grave Cemetery Walk has been cancelled due to pending inclement weather.
