The Washington County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday. On the agenda was the WEMIGA waste management report. Lynn Whaley, operator of the rural solid waste and recycling center, gave the report, “Totals for landfill, our landfill it has been trending a little lower this year than last year. Recycling has actually been trending higher for 2023. So our tonnages have gone down, and recycling has gone up.” Whaley brought up after his report that non-rural Washington County residents were utilizing the rural center. They will be sending out flyers reminding residents who are able to access the center. You must be a Washington County Rural Resident in order to dispose of your regular household garbage at no charge. Proof of residency is required upon request if the facility attendant asks. If you do not meet the requirements, you will not be allowed to dispose of your garbage.
