The Iowa Associated Press has released their final polls for the 2023 high school football season and three teams from southeast Iowa have received recognition.
Two of those teams come from the 8-man ranks. The Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves started the season ranked No. 6. They rose to No. 1 with a bullet at the start of October, and have had the top spot on lockdown ever since, including this week. WMU was the unbeaten champion of 8-man District 6, and continued that roll into the postseason, dismantling Belle Plaine a week ago in their playoff opener 64-8, to remain perfect on the season at 9-0. This week the Wolves welcome Moravia to Winfield for the 2nd round of the 8-man playoffs. The Mohawks have an 8-2 record and are in the receiving votes category. You can hear all of the action between the Wolves and Mohawks live Friday on FM 106.1, the KCII 1 app, and KCIIradio.com, beginning with the Winfield-Mt. Union Football Pregame Show at 6:30 and kickoff at 7p.m.
The WACO Warriors are the third team listed in the receiving votes category of the AP’s 8-man football poll this week. The Warriors are 7-1 this season, winners of five straight, after handling Baxter 55-20 in their postseason opener a week ago. The Warriors travel to Don Bosco to meet the No. 8 ranked, 8-1 Dons, who started the playoffs with a 62-22 win over Ed-Co last Friday. You can hear all of the action live Friday between the Warriors and Dons on the new KCII3 Stream, available only at KCIIradio.com, beginning with the WACO Football Pregame Show at 6:30p.m. and kickoff at 7.
The Sigourney-Keota Cobras are back in this week’s AP Class 1A poll. SK is at No. 6 for the second week after punishing West Central Valley of Stuart on Friday to start the playoffs 52-7. The Cobras matchup this week is with Dike-New Hartford back at the Snake Pit in Sigourney.
