After approximately two years of going without, the City of Sigourney has found a new Police Chief. The City Council approved the hiring of Kris Metcalf for the position at their meeting on October 18.
Metcalf lives in Fairfield, and has extensive law enforcement experience. With over 20 years in the field of law enforcement, he has served as Chief of Police in Blakesburg, Eldon, and Richland. Metcalf also spent 10 years with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, where he was most recently working as a reserve officer. In addition to more than two decades of training, Metcalf also has experience with the mental health side of law enforcement.
Already working on grant-writing and hiring additional officers, Metcalf hopes to build up the department and find his replacement by the time he retires in approximately five years. Planning to work 40 hours per week, his first day on the job was Wednesday.
