In October, 21-year-old Mya Wright of Iowa City pled guilty for her role in a robbery and shooting that occurred in January of 2022 in Washington. Wright pled guilty to Aiding and Abetting Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class C Felony, and was sentenced on the same day. Due to the offense being a forcible felony, the court imposed a term of incarceration not to exceed ten years with a 50% mandatory minimum of five years.

In June, 19-year-old Jaden Miller of Columbus Junction pled guilty to Robbery in the First Degree, a Class B Felony. Miller was sentenced this week. Due to Miller being a minor at the time of the offense, he was sentenced under the Iowa Code as a juvenile. The Washington County Attorney’s Office argued for a 25-year sentence with a 15-year mandatory minimum; the sentencing court imposed a 25-year suspended sentence for Miller with placement at the One Eighty Zone Residential Facility. Charges were filed in early 2022, stemming from a report of a shooting at the Woodridge Apartments on West Adams in Washington. Law enforcement was informed that Wright and Miller coordinated a robbery where Miller possessed a handgun and shot 41-year-old Kenneth James of Coralville.
