Courage Ride is an annual, local biking event that raises funds for sarcoma cancer research. Last month, a check for $75,000 raised from this year’s ride was presented to the University of Iowa’s Sarcoma Research Program.
The Courage Ride was founded in 2005 by Jackie and Tom Bailey of Riverside as a way to honor their son Seth who passed away at the age of 25 after an eight-year battle with sarcoma. Since its inception, Courage Ride has raised over $875,000 for sarcoma research. These donations have made up 85 percent of the University of Iowa’s sarcoma seed grant funding.
More than 400 bicyclists participated in the 19th Annual Courage Ride, which was held on August 12. Riders pedaled through Washington and Johnson counties, with a virtual route available as well. Next year’s ride will be held on Saturday, August 10 and mark two decades of holding the event. For more information, or to make a donation, visit courageride.org.
