Staff at the Columbus Junction Public Library are inviting all to attend a 75th Anniversary Celebration on Monday, November 13.

From 5-7 p.m. the public is welcome to join in the celebration, which will include cake, punch, and several historical displays. Those who attend will be able to explore these displays and chat with library staff.

Director of the Library, Mandy Grimm, tells KCII that this event sets the stage for more to come in Columbus Junction. “As a tax-funded, fully public service, we are celebrating 75 years which leads into our town’s sesquicentennial or 150th anniversary next year. So we’re really looking forward to our 75th birthday party, and we’re looking forward to doing a bunch of local history programs throughout this winter and into the summer next year to celebrate 150 years of Columbus Junction.”

In its early days, the Columbus Junction Public Library had been a subscription library and/or volunteer-run. Monday marks the 75th anniversary of it becoming a tax-supported entity within the city on November 13, 1948.
